Steph and I were looking for a Lego set to work on together. This is also why there are not many progress pictures of this one, because if I stopped to take pictures she’d have it done :). Steph is much faster as doing Lego than I. We just enjoy it a little differently and it is something nice to work on together for sets that have certain meaning, etc. In this case, our daughter wanted her room redecorated with a space theme, so we went all out with space sheets, comforter and motivational quote hangings. To tie in our hobby we’ve wanted to purchase and build this set, and our daughter also likes it so we went ahead and built this for her room.
We enjoyed building this together and it was definitely a lesson in attention to details because though building the frame was straight forward the intricacies of the individual squares making up the art piece had varying fun pieces to determine placement of and piece together as we progressed through the build.
We were both thrilled with how it turned out, which then left us with hanging it on the wall. This turned into a bigger challenge then expected and waiting for assistance to arrive (in-laws). Father-in-law and I had to do some calculations and figuring to determine where to drill and place the screws into the wall (with anchors). Once that was completed trying to get the art piece to hang on these screws took some additional measuring along with trial and error. Also took some ‘patch building’ when some pushed down to hard trying to hang causing bits of the frame or other pieces to go clattering to the floor. After a few more attempts, breaking for lunch and attempting again I was able to get the art piece to hang. There really should be an easier mechanism to do this… afterwards, thought maybe need to put a piece of painters tape up the wall from the screws to see where I’m going down so everything lines up, but then not sure how to properly get rid of it… either way… the art piece is hung, we love it, and who knows, maybe another Lego Art piece is in our future.
