PHP Upgrade for Site Health

Today I got my new desktop computer set up and once up and running wanted to get back to blogging as I have a backlog to catch up on.  I was feeling brave though and made some additional setting changes in my cPanel, due to one of the health issues being flagged around my outdated PHP version (was on 7.4).  It had been a while since I have done much within the cPanel, so of course it has changed a fair bit.  In order to do I had to log into my hosting provider and access the cPanel for my site (dwcryan.com).  Once in the cPanel I:

  • Clicked ‘Applications’ on the left side
  • Saw my WordPress installation
  • Clicked ‘Settings’ icon next to PHP version
  • Selected latest PHP Version, at this point unable to access my website
  • Then went into PHP Selector (through Edit PHP Configuration)
  • Selected mysqli & mysqlnd, then able to access my website; however, checking the status of my site in cPanel I saw:
This domain’s PHP configuration does not meet the requirements for this version of the application (WordPress 6.9):

      • PHP mbstring must be enabled.
    (Value Detected: disabled)

  • In order to fix this, went back to the PHP configuration and selected mbstring under PHP extensions
At this point I was back up and running and creating this post.
