Concorde Bag 8 Bottom

Concorde – Fuselage and Front Landing Gear (5-9)

My building sessions were some sporadic evenings where I would build one bag an evening.  Bag 5 was about building the structure around the landing gear ‘arms’ and starting to get the outside look going with the red striping and building upon the delta wing surrounding the mechanism as you can see in Bag 6 pictures where you see the smoother curves of the delta wing coming together.

Bag 7 and 8 were building the cabin space (or so it looks from the outside) but underneath it contains the gears, rods and supporting infrastructure built for the landing gear mechanism, including the piece that connects the drive shaft of the main landing gear.  This was then added on top of the wing and one of the rod piece was pushed in and an additional lock was assembled and added to hold the fuselage to the huge delta wing as the build towards the front of the aircraft continued.  I should have taken a picture of under the cabin and how it went together for the landing gear, as it was very neat.

In Bag 9 we are working more on the front of the aircraft where the front landing gear resides.  In order to keep the front and rear landing gear in sync the designers came up with an elegant clutch design which you build into the wing.   After building this portion something didn’t seem right so I had to step away.  After coming back with fresh eyes and taking a closer look I realized the wrong color piece was used in one of the steps, so I disassembled back to that point and replaced the white piece with the appropriate blue piece (it might have actually been the other way around).

That is where I left off on July 3rd and haven’t built another bag since as I’ve been enjoying my summer, spending time with my daughter, visiting family, etc.
